St Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
• We are referring to the Gospel of Jesus Christ used as the spiritual plough in Salvation to till the grounds and the soils to your heart.
• The Spirit of God must spiritually work to break up, loosen, turnover, and pull out the knowledge of good and evil; its lust, habits, practices, behavior, and mannerism from the heart of flesh to plant the seed of His Word in your new heart of flesh to transform you and I into being new creatures in Christ.
• Plough or plow means to break up the ground for cultivation.
• In our definition we are literally talking about cultivating the foundational ground of your heart, that is that which you were born in the nature (or image) of the knowledge of good and evil due to the sin and rebellion of Adam.
• Why? Because we walk by, believe by, choose by, and live by the words that are in our heart.
• Plough or plow means to dig up the grounds of your stoney hearts for cultivation of the Spirit of God and His Word to come in to allow the Spirit of God, His Word, His Statutes, His Laws, His Judgments, His Principles, and His Will to come in, take its abode in what becomes your new heart.
• For the Spirit of God and the Spirit of His Word to come in, it MUST awaken your soul through the heard Word of God (which is also the seed of God) to break up, loosen, and till the grounds of your heart to allow the newness of new life to come in, take its abode, and begin the transforming of your heart, mind, spirit, soul, and body for the new born-again creature.
• Today we are talking to the backsliders, the indecisive, the weak, the born-again believers, and even to those that may say “I’m not ready yet”.
• The Word of God is straightforward! Jesus when He speaks, He speaks straightforward. Jesus is the ultimate example of straightforwardness. His teachings are direct and clear, to cut through cultural traditions and religious complexities to reveal the heart of God’s truth and intent in you. Jesus calls for genuine repentance.
• Straightforward means clear, precise, and free of obscurity; not deviating from truth or fairness.
• Straightforward is deeply embedded in biblical teachings and principles.
• Being straightforward is honesty, integrity, and simplicity in communication and actions. These qualities are seen as reflective of a righteous and godly character.
• God Himself is straightforward and truthful. Numbers 23:19 KJV Amplified says God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?
Some examples of the excuses used by half-hearted followers that Jesus referred to in the verses of scripture above in St Luke 9:57-61.
• Half-hearted means little interest or enthusiasm; lukewarm.
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto Him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.
59 And He said unto another, Follow Me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
• This is God’s Divine calling coming against your natural excuses.
• Another example of excuse found in St Matthew 19:16-26 is where the rich young ruler had come to Jesus to ask, “what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”
16 And, behold, one came and said unto Him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And He said unto him, Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
• Jesus is referring to the new life that is born-again in Him by being born of the water and of the Spirit. We must continually keep the commandments of God.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto Him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou will be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto His disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
• The word hardly here means with difficulty or with great labor.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
• Jesus uses the phrase “a camel going through the eye of a needle” is a metaphor for something that is very difficult, or even impossible to do.
• The phrase refers to a narrow gateway into Jerusalem called the “Eye of the Needle”. It is a small gate in the preserved portion of the city walls, so small that only people could squeeze through one by one but not animals of burden.
• Camels were heavily loaded with the goods and riders, so they had to be unloaded to pass through the gate.
• The idea of a rich person entering the Kingdom of God means a rich person would need to unload all their material possessions and humble themselves before God to enter His Kingdom.
25 When His disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
• As the scripture says in Romans 10:11, 13-15, 11 Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on Him whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
• Saved is to preserve from injury, destruction, or evil of any kind; to rescue from danger; to preserve from final and everlasting destruction; to rescue from eternal death.
• All that will believe through Salvation in the name of Jesus. Jesus was born to save His people from their sins. (St Matthew 1:21).
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
• Jesus looked on them with earnest attention.
In closing,
• A compass is known to many of us as an instrument containing a magnetized pointer which shows the direction of magnetic north and bearings from it.
• A compass is a navigational tool that shows direction using the Earth’s magnetic field. It is used in aviation, shipping, outdoor recreation, and technology.
• How it works? The needle of a compass aligns itself with the Earth’s magnetic field. The Earth’s magnetic field is the north pole.
• A compass shows the cardinal directions of north, south, east, and west.
• In the natural GPS has become a compass to many when traveling or getting directions to and from a location.
• In the spirituality of Salvation, the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) is our magnetic field that aligns the spirit man in you and I back to and with the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
• The Holy Spirit is the spiritual compass that will guide all born-again believers through their new life in Christ as He helps us make decisions that are in the Will of God and His pleasure.
• The Holy Spirit is the ONLY resource for the soul of mankind. He will guide, lead, and teach us the way of the Spirit of God and His prescribed way. The prescribed way of the Spirit is the Word of God.
• The Holy Spirit is trustworthy. He is the trustworthy guide of the Spirit of God that will provide accuracy with meaningful directions in our new transformed life as a new creature in Christ.
• The Holy Spirit restores and resets our spiritual journey as He restores and reset the souls’ directions, desires, and affections back to and on the Will of God.
• The Holy Spirit only considers the Word of God, His righteousness, and points every born-again believer to God’s established moral and spiritual way through Jesus.
• STOP trying to find your own way and life in this life you are born in because it is impossible. God has built inside of every human being a spiritual compass that will surely guide us back to Him. The Holy Spirit is that guide.
• Dividing your attention between spiritual and your natural stuff will always cause you to favor one over the other, when in fact you cannot serve two masters. (St Matthew 6:24).
• The Holy Spirit knows the way of the Spirit of God for us. Take it!
Amen
