Entering into your spiritual rest for your Soul
Rest means to cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, and recover strength; to be placed and supported so as to stay in a specified position, and that position is in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 4:1-11
- 1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
- 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
- 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. (Psalm 95:11) Works that have already been completed and prepared and waiting for all who would believe.
- 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
- 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
- 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
- 7 Again, he limited a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. (Psalm 95:7-8)
- 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
- 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
- 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. (Genesis 2:2)
- 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any an fall after the same example of unbelief:
- Work by being zealous and exert ourselves striving diligently to enter the rest of God, to know and experience it for you so that you don’t perish or fall from unbelief and disobedience like the children of Israel did.
What is God’s rest? What is spiritual rest?
- God’s rest is Spiritual rest! Rest for your Soul by entering into rest in Christ Jesus which is attained by faith.
- Ceasing from the way that once seemed right to enter into righteousness and right standing with God.
- The rest for your Soul bringing him in total peace in God.
- Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
- God removing all stumbling blocks because of your obedience to His Word; being a doer of His Word; and loving His Word in your heart and soul, causing the Spirit man to be back in relationship with God.
- A causing to cease or putting to rest your Soul from unbelief, distrust, disobedience, hard heartedness, doing things your way, aiding and assisting God.
- God’s rest is the place of promise, better known as your promise land.
- The spiritual rest is not from your daily work or from being physically exhausted, but it is that great peace – peace that incorporates the “whole man” – “the whole faculty of man” in Christ Jesus.
- God’s rest is entrusting God to do for you as He has now become your Soul Source.
- Allowing God to do what He is calling you to do and trusting Him to do it, because God knows how to do it!
- This rest is in the earth and will not be attained through death!
The Israelite’s had the promise of entering the promise of God’s rest, and even today entering into His rest still holds sure. It is promised and offered to us today, through the completed plan of salvation by Jesus Christ.
We should be afraid to distrust God’s promise of entering into His rest, unless we have come to think that we are too late or too short of reaching His rest, or that God is short and slack like man.
The Gospel of God was preached to us just as the good news of Israel’s deliverance from Egyptian bondage came to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them because it was not mixed with faith (the leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, Wisdom, and goodness by those who hear it).
The Israelites were operating under the Law of the Flesh, a yoke of slavery having their conscience seared with the remembrance of sin yearly.
The Law was not of faith. The Law and its sacrifices are insufficient and ineffectual to take away the sins of mankind.
They used unbelief and fear to believe God. They did not have faith in God through Moses, or for what God was doing, because it was always easier for them to convert back to the ways of Egypt and their old nature because of unbelief and fear.
Fear only operates with unbelief and doubt.
Faith operates with hope and evidence not seen.
Hebrews 10:1-4
- 1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
- This is the life with style that believers today live! They live in unbelief and fear in serving a God that they lack truth, knowledge, and understanding of because of their flesh and its Will being corporate in their lives and calling it the Spirit of God.
- 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
- 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
- 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
Galatians 5:3-6
- 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
- 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
- 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
- 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision awaileth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
Obligation to the Law
James 2:10-11
- 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
- One single Law causes believers to be guilty of breaking the whole Law. This is why Jesus had to come!
- 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou are become a transgressor of the law.
- Meaning you have violated the Law that governs you and have become guilty as a transgressor.
- Abiding by and through the senses of your flesh means you’re serving still under the Law of the Old nature and not the Law of the Spirit, as a new creature.
- This is why so many don’t repent!
Faith in God and His way according to His Word over and in you will cause you to enter into His rest.
Faith only operates in belief in God and His Will.
Faith works for God and in God. His works have already been completed and prepared before the beginning of time and is waiting on us (believer’s) to get to the place of belief, drawn by being spiritually attracted by the Spirit of God through His Son Jesus.
Psalm 95:10-11
- 10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their hearts, and they have not known my ways:
- 11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.
This is God’s oath toward Israel! This is God’s oath toward us! Why do you thing He is changing for you today? Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward us, but you must be in the boundaries of the Word for Grace to respond.
The Israelites grieved God so causing Him to suffer with an evil generation with evil hearts, all due to their ignorance of God.
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Though God has sent His Son Jesus His word does not change!
God rested on the 7th day from all His works. Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Everything that God had made in the six days was made and was good. In these six days man was also created, along with the every plant of the field before it was in the earth; every herb of the field before it grew. All things were made by God for God in six days before it was put in the earth! Genesis 2:4-
To say again, what is this spiritual rest?
- This rest is not rest from your daily work or from being physically exhausted but it is that great peace in knowing that God has taken care of everything that pertains to you in life and godliness.
- This rest is entrusting God to do for you as He becomes your Soul’s Source.
- This rest is allowing God to do what He is calling you to do in you and perfecting you to do it.
- This rest is trusting God to do it, waiting on Him and His Will, because God knows how to do it.
The trying of your faith is “trying you to believe” in Christ Jesus. James 1:3-4
- 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience
- 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
- In His rest we want for nothing; all of our need are supplied and all of our desires are His.
- “Trying” is not an attribute of God!! It is an effort of the Will of the flesh to try and do the Will of God.
Living by faith is not a struggle, its rest. “And the just shall live by faith!”
Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
A soul full of pride and possessions and lifted up is not upright in the Lord.
When entering into the rest of the Lord, we walk out our relationship with God since our purpose and intent was already included in the six days of God’s work. Now walk it out!
- Unbelief, doubt, and disobedience will exclude you from the rest of the promise of the Lord God.
- Unbelief and disobedience is spiritual failure.
- Unbelief, doubt, and disobedience represent a hardness of your heart toward God.
Entering into the rest of the Lord God is the finished works of Jesus Christ by taking on the entire character, personality, mind, and Spirit of Christ Jesus, with the Spirit of Truth, the spiritual gifts and talents which will build in you the full stature of Christ Jesus in you. This will cause you to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of your flesh, as you do the Will of God.
So let us labor in faith with works that will just believe God and prove God.
Let us cease from the works of trying to assist and aid God in His completed work in you.
Now just rest as you labor in the Lord God!
St Matthew 11:28-30
- 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
- 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
