• What do you mean by a portrait in you? A portrait is a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders; a representation or impression of someone or something in language or on film.
• In our study Jesus Christ is the portrait that the Spirit of the Word of God engraves in your heart, mind, soul, and spirit.
• Jesus Christ is the portrait all born-again new creatures must look like. There is no other choice of images.
• Engrave means to cut or carve a text or design on the surface of a hard object; be permanently fixed in one’s memory or mind.
• This is where the new spiritual heart of flesh replaces the heart of stone and in it is the engraved Word and Will of God, His statutes, ordinances, and judgments with the power to cause you to do them.
• The Spirit of the Word of God is the portrait of God’s plan and purpose for the spirit man in you and me.
• The Spirit of the Word of God is the portrait of God’s plan and purpose through Jesus Christ for the spirit man in you and me.
• It is the Spirit of the Word of God that “transforms” your soul into a born-again, new creature in Christ Jesus as a son.
• Transform means to make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, character of; to change completely from one form, appearance, structure, type, character to another; to modify or adapt to something (the Word of God) so that it can serve a different use and purpose (for God and no longer the devil).
• The sinful state of man is a thorough and dramatic change: from a carnal sinful nature to a spiritual nature, that is back to the image of God, after their likeness.
• Jesus came to the earth as a “life giving spirit”.
• When we become a portrait of the Word of God we too become a life giving spirit to many as we are led by the Spirit of God to the soul of man.
• A quickening spirit is a spirit that gives back spiritual life to the soul of the spirit man in you.
1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
• Christ Jesus is the giver of all life! He comes to quicken that which is spiritually dead in you. He is the resurrecting power and authority for the soul of man to be renewed and reconciled back to God.
St John 5:24-27 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself; 27 And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man.
• Verse 25 says that our hour has come today when we hear His voice, we are spiritually awakened, and new life begins and we shall live in Him.
Hebrews 3:15 While it is said, Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
• Many believers struggle in Salvation because they have never heard the Voice of Christ which awakens their soul.
• Many believers have only heard the voice of a family member or a witness coercing them and trying to put them to shame in order to come to Jesus, but they never hear His Voice.
• I can attest (be a witness to; certify formally) to that from my testimony of hearing Christ’s voice saying to me “You need Jesus”. I was spiritually awakened to hear the voice of Christ in that moment.
• Once I heard the voice, I began to seek His face and His Will.
• The resurrection of our spiritual death is being foretold here in verses 28 and 29.
28 Marvel not at this; for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
• Even though the scriptures were already written before our time they are being fulfilled in our time.
• The portrait of the Word of God being painted in you allows you to know why you are called into Salvation without a doubt.
• Your call and being chosen begins the portrait of the Word of God in you. It starts with a spiritual calling and attraction from the Spirit of God to you. (St John 6:44; 12:32).
• To those of you that are already born-again, why did God spiritually draw and attract you?
• To those of you that are being born-again, why is God spiritually drawing and attracting you to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ? You need to know!
• In knowing this makes you aware of your sin and wrong doings. It will cause you to repent and be broken in heart and broken in spirit with a desire to get things right with God and man.
• The scriptures begin to paint your portrait of the Word of God in you when you accept the calling of God.
St Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. This is the universal call to all souls.
• When this is heard this is or becomes your soul hour of awakening.
• This scripture verse is relating to and is the results of the marriage feast of the King’s son spoken in a parable by Jesus about the Kingdom of Heaven and its likeness.
• The calling is the bidding (or invitation) of a certain King which made a marriage for his son. He sent his servants out to summon them to come and they would not come.
• The King sent out his servants again to tell them who he had invited and what he had prepared as a feast for them, to come to the marriage. But they were not concerned and paid no attention (ignored and made light of it) treating it with contempt and went their separate ways to their own business and doings, while others seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and put them to death.
• So, the King was angry, mad when he heard he sent out his soldiers (armies) to put those murderers to death and burn their city. Then the King said to the servants that the wedding feast is prepared but those who were invited were not worthy to attend.
• Don’t let your consistent struggles in Salvation through the weakness and irresponsibility of your flesh deem you to be unworthy to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
• So, he sent his servants out to the highways and byways to get as many as they could find both good and bad, so that the room in which the feast is held would be filled with guests.
• The King entered in to view the guest, he looked intentionally at a man there who had on no wedding garment.
• The King said to the man, friend, how did you come in here without putting on the appropriate wedding garment? And the man was speechless.
• He said to the servants, tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen. St Matthew 22:1-14.
St John 10:1-3 1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear His voice: and He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
• Salvation is our entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven as we are summoned, invited, called, and chosen by the Spirit of God through Jesus..
• There will be some that will always try to enter the Kingdom of Heaven that have not been properly clothed by the Word of God in Spirit and in Truth; unauthorized, unclothed in the garments (robes) of righteousness, unready, unworthy in their heart searched by God (the King of Heaven).
1 Timothy 2:4-6 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
• The Spirit of God knows the portrait of the heart of the spirit man in you; what it should be and look like according to His Word, Will, and Way.
• Human beings cannot fool God!
• The heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked, Jeremiah 17:9-10 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
In closing,
• So, when you witness to people don’t forget to tell them the whole process of Salvation, not just the highlights of God’s Hand but also the pleasures of His Heart toward all mankind.
St Matthew 7:13-14 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
• Because of the wickedness of the hearts of men that choose to be hypocrites, cloaks of deception, wolves in sheep clothing, and false prophets used by the devil to deceive many that are not and have not surrendered their whole self to the Spirit of God’s Will in their lives because they don’t know why they are called into Salvation nor do the Word of God paint a portrait of Christ in their life.
• Many don’t know because they choose not to know and do the pure, perfect Will of God.
• Many don’t know because they choose to not take the responsibility of their Salvation.
Amen
