- The Spirit of God dwells in you permanently as His Holy Spirit, while the Holy Spirit God comes upon you for a specific purpose.
- The Spirit of God dwells within you when you receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This is a permanent relationship that Jesus promised in St John 14:26 that the Spirit will be with you forever sent by the Father in Jesus name.
- The Comforter will never leave you, but sin will cause Him to lay dormant in you.
- The Spirit dwelling in you gives us life and enables us to know God and how to follow Him.
- The Spirit being upon you gives you power to do what God has called you to do for a specific purpose.
- God knew that His Spirit could not dwell with the spirit Man because of his sin and disobedience.
Genesis 6:3 And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
- So, when the Spirit of God come upon you make sure you do and say what the Spirit of God says and not what you want for your gain.
- The Spirit of the Lord coming upon a person or dwelling inside of a born-again believer is the Holy Spirit then and now.
For example,
Judges 3:10, Othniel was raised up by the Lord God to deliver the children of Israel from the oppression of Chushan-rishathaim. In doing so the Spirit of God “came upon him”.
10 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the Lord delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.
- Judgment would come when the children of Israel would cry to the Lord, the Lord would raise them up a deliverer, someone to bear their judgment and atone for their sins just as He did with us in the person of His only begotten Son, Jesus.
- Gideon and Samson signified the power of the Holy Spirit to come upon them to do extraordinary acts.
- The 70 Elders in Numbers 11:24-30 with Moses. The Spirit of God took some of His Spirit off Moses to put it upon 70 Elders. As the Spirit of God would rest upon them, they would prophesy only as He rest upon them.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
- In spirituality we are born-again, and the Holy Spirit becomes our source of a new life given to us by God through His Son Jesus.
- The Spirit of God transforms us from within so that we become more like Jesus on the earth today.
- The Holy Spirit is a lover of souls. He works in and through born-again new creatures in Christ.
- The Holy Spirit knows the heart, mind, thoughts, imagination, and communicates those to the believers that believe in Jesus: His birth, burial, and resurrection in their heart and soul.
- Jesus came as the Holy Spirit in flesh.
- Jesus is the knitted pattern that will bind us together with God and help us become more like Him in the presence and sight of God the Father.
- Jesus is our example of the Holy Spirit in possession and control of the temple He dwells in.
- Whatever the Father does, the Son does also.
St John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father do: for what things soever He doeth these also doeth the Son likewise.
St John 5:30 I can of nine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and My judgment is just; because I seek not mine own Will, but the Will of the Father which hath sent Me.
- When the Holy Spirit dwells inside of you as a new creature in Christ you should not seek your own Will, but the Will of the Father for His flock.
- The Holy Spirit lives within believers that are followers and learners of Jesus to produce change in their character in the Fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23.
- The Holy Spirit teaches ALL truth about Jesus, St John 14:26.
- The Holy Spirit says ONLY what the Father tells Him to say, St John 16:13.
- The Holy Spirit gives the born-again new creature in Christ the power to share the faith of Jesus to everyone they witness to as their witness, Acts 1:8.
- God replaces the heart of every new creature in Christ that will transform and produce God’s love toward all, Ezekiel 36:26-27; Romans 5:5.
- The Holy Spirit is the promise of Jesus sent by the Father to do greater works that will reveal to those who will hear the message of truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to trust God, and come to Jesus.
- The Holy Spirit will testify of Jesus and the Father through signs, wonders, and miracles through the gifts of the Spirit that is given according to the measure of faith that has been dealt to us by the Will of God.
- The Holy Spirit is the Dunamis power of the Spirit of God. The more you allow Him to possess, control, influence, guide, and direct you in your new life with Him the more you will become like Jesus and experience the love and relationship of our Father.
- The Greek word for Dunamis is the root of the English word dynamite and dynamic.
- Dunamis means power, force, or ability.
- 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
- This power sets God’s standards within us so that all we do, say, and act reflects to God for His glory and honor.
- All this power comes through the birth, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. His ascension to Heaven
